Thank you Zombie Disco Squad and Discobelle for this new mix. Absolutely STUNNING – consistent heavy low bass all the way through with ZDS’s signature tribal beats. Very nice!

Nat and Lucas must be reading my mind, as they bring in label-mates Round Table Knights‘ new track Calypso at 35min. Out 15th February on Made to Play, I’ve had it on repeat since Kissy Sell Out dropped it on his Radio 1 show last week. This carnival sound is definitely reminiscent of Zombie Disco Squad’s work, and was the vibe Fake Blood went for when I last saw him play at the Warehouse Project in November. After adding the great Riva Starr to his own bouncy releases, it will be interesting to see who Jesse Rose chooses next for release on his label.

I caught a glimpse of the Infadels as a student back in 2005 at the once small-scale pub-based event The Camden Crawl and then stumbled across them at a few festivals; Glastonbury on the John Peel Stage and in the Saloon, and the London based Get Loaded In the Park. Their spine tingling track Murder that Sound became a part of the soundtrack to my summer and it amazed me that I heard very little from them there on out. After such a fast start, aside from the odd ‘Infadels DJ set’ listed around London, nothing really seemed to be happening….

That was until now… Once tipped by the NME as “acid rave for generation Franz” the Infadels are back riding the popular wave of the electro-infused indie pop rock hitting not just the gigging scene, but the clubs…

Influenced by the production skills of Radio One’s Alex Metric (from In New DJs We Trust) the new track Ghosts was dropped by Alex himself, and on last week’s Annie Mac show by Jaymo and Andy George and it’s big.

So it’s likely that 2010 is set to be a good year for the Infadels – check out their new video released this week.

Hey Champ – Cold Dust Girl

Hailing from Chicago, Jon Marks and Saam Hagshenas started off as a two-piece before Pete Dougherty joined them in 2007 to add another layer of keys and synths. They’ve remixed The Cool Kids, Passion Pit and 80kidz (who’ve also remixed this track Cold Dust Girl). I feel like Cold Dust Girl might be my Hearts on Fire for this year.

This month I will mostly be seeing Stopmakingme.

Born of aristocratic parents Adventures in the Beetroot Field and the Lock Tavern, Daniel Avery begin in Bournemouth playing at the Lock’s venue Sixty Million Postcards, and now runs their Kill Em All night (and soon to be record label too) with Olly Dixon and Tim Lawton from the Filthy Dukes (who also met at the Lock).

He’s 24, currently in Camberwell, and is making friends and influencing people pretty quickly from his desk at Pure Groove record store, thanks to smooth smooth genre-jumping and synthy reworks of big-hitters such as Tiga and Lykke Li, peppered with a few oldies like St. Etienne’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

He can be found at Kill Em All at Fabbers on 22nd January with Erol, the wonderful Riton, and his old friends the Filthy Dukes, and we’re delighted to see another art/music crossover as he’s gracing Corsica Studios next Thursday 14th January for Off Modern.

Also, he’s put LOADS of mixes on to Soundcloud for your aural pleasure, including one he’s just done for Off Modern, with his newest remixes of Boy 8-Bit’s A City Under Seige, and We Have Band’s Divisive.

Crookers really do have tons of friends

NME.com has an exclusive video of the new Crookers track Remedy featuring the unmistakable tones of Miike Snow.

A real departure from the signature Crookers sound, Remedy is released 22nd February. Phra and Bot have been busy on the collaborations; they’ve worked with Kelis on No Security, and Soulwax and Mixhell on something more recognisable as theirs – We Love Animals. Busy P’s joined the gang too with a remix of Hip Hop Changed (featuring Rye Rye).

Tons of Friends looks like it’s going to be a hugely diverse treat – released on 8th March.

Filthy Dukes Winter Sun Mix

Tim from the Filthy Dukes has given us a snow-present on Mixcloud. Their remix of Stellify from Ian Brown is a storming beginning, and they bring in Hot Chip‘s One Life Stand beautifully at 33 minutes in (Busy P listed this as his number 2 record in his Christmas Top Ten, and I tend to agree).

“I was traveling around on trains in the snow and compiled all these tracks into a playlist. It’s a mix for sitting on trains rushing through snow covered fields with the sun pouring in through the window. OR…just sitting in your bedroom with five layers on trying to keep warm.”

The Longest Score

I’m not usually a big fan of mashups – I think you can remix a good track better with clever layering and/or turning up the bass, but mashups are often done for a bit of a laugh (and the novelty factor wore off a while ago) or they end up sounding slightly off-key.

This is my exception, and it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. One of my all time favourite ‘housey house’ records, by Morgan Page featuring Lissie – The Longest Road to Nowhere, mixed with my favouurite Boy 8-Bit track The Cricket Scores. I had one of those moments where you hear something for the first time and giggle with delight.
