Yesterday I Was Drunk

Jacob Wright from Resident Advisor calls it ‘boozecore,’ and Parisien duo Nôze seem to be having a LOT of fun making records.

Better known for their collaboration with Riva Starr on I Was Drunk, Nôze are Nicolas Sfintescu (better known as DJ Freak) and Ezéchiel Pailhès. Risqué lyrics, oom-pah beats and Russian kalinka rhythms all make for a hedonistic rush of a stage show, often ending with one or both of them naked.

Nicolas’s record label is called Circus Company, and that’s definitely an apt characterisation of their sound and attitude. Their friends M.A.N.D.Y. (also on Get Physical ) dropped their track You Have To Dance to end their set in Miami last year, and this is the kind of thing it makes you do:

NôzeYou Have To Dance, Get Physical, January 2009, from Songs on The Rocks.

Of course, who could forget the reason I came across them in the first place: their remix of the staggeringly beautiful Island by Dapayk + Padberg feat. Caro..
