Brap!

We’ve been spending a surprising amount of time this Summer on British Waterways, since discovering that jumping from our friend Mark’s balcony into the canal at Broadway Market didn’t in fact kill us or give us pink-eye. We’ve utilised house-boats, kayaks, canoes, and our little arms and legs as modes of transport, so were delighted when Kissy Sell Out provided a soundtrack in the form of Bart B More‘s dirty little mash-up of Hues Corporation and his Brap! (released in July on Boysnoize Records), aptly titled, Brap! the Boat.

I love Bart B More for when I’m feeling slightly agressive, perhaps on the walk to work or towards fellow passengers on public transport. I find the metal grind and dischordant techno sounds help me to vent, balanced out by party bass and uptempo beats, giving an overall jacking house vibe.

He is actually Bart van der Meer from The Netherlands, and has been releasing his own productions since 2007 on his imprint Secure Recordings (alongside signings Bassjackers and Destroy Disco), then on to Toolroom, Sound Pellegrino and finally Boysnoize. He fully entered the clubworld’s collective consciousness with So It Goes in 2009 and the huge Romane in February 2010.

One of those nice little loops that happens when you start researching someone for the blog is that Bart B More’s remix of CrookersNo Security is the record that blew us away in Busy P‘s set at the Warehouse Project last October, which was recorded live for his Essential Mix. I’ve been misguidedly searching for it ever since, and never quite getting the right remixer. I should have known.

So head down to Mile End, where a man sits at the Canal-side, and you can hire a canoe for a day. Avoid the commuter crowds by taking British Waterways.
