Exclusively Judas

It’s been a while since an Eskimo Twins EP has graced the inner-ears of One From The Vaults, and we’ve been getting excited about this for some time. Following on from Horror in November, the Judas EP is out on Wax:On on 6 September (on Beatport from 23 August).

Nathan and Tim have been backwards and forwards to Ibiza for most of the summer for their Reclaim the Dancefloor residency, and while they’ve been away both Judas on the A-side and Droid on the flip have been creeping into DJ sets we’ve heard out and about, as well as Droid being hammered out by Kissy Sell Out on Radio 1 this week. With such differing ancestry as Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder, Eskimo Twins productions contain a signature melodic component with a heavy heavy addition of mangled metal and bass, which gives us a little clue to what might be in store here. And of course, both Judas and Droid are characteristically bleepy and filthy-dirty.

Remixes are provided by my personal favourite Justin Robertson’s Deadstock 33s turning bleeps to claps for a disco re-rub, alongside Turbo‘s Matt Walsh, heavier grinds from Ado and RipTidE, and emotive hazy beats from The Sonic Emporium.

We’ve got Judas and Droid in full 320kpbs glory for you to download at the very small price of one tweet.

Woody’s Roundup

Do you ever feel like the weekends are actually reality, and the working week is just like a bad dream in between? Except the weekends have a slightly hazy, dream-like quality to them. Where did this week go?

It’s Friday already, and we’re galavanting off to Shoreditch to see our chums Stopmakingme and Jac The Disco play at East Village tonight alongside Matt Walsh. Yay! Tomorrow there’s a tonne of stuff going on; Slutty Fringe are hosting Filthy Dukes and Silver Columns at 93 Feet East, Village Underground is the venue for the much-anticipated 2020 Soundsystem 2020 Vision party, curly-haired vixen Hannah Holland is playing with Off Modern‘s Nasty McQuaid at Apocalypso at Queen of Hoxton, and Flying Lotus is playing for Brainfeeder at my favourite car park, Hearn Street.

Stopmakingme’s latest mix for Phantasy reminds us of how great he is:

There were so many great tracks this week I found it hard to filter, but here are my top seven, with the view to keeping it a little varied in terms of tone and subgenre.
Eli Escobar – Love Thing Part 2 (DJ Mehdi Club Edit)
Midnight Magic – Beam Me Up (Jacques Renault Remix)
Cassette Jam – Speed of Light (Filthy Dukes Dub)
Goldfrapp – Believer (Little Loud Remix) Little Loud is certainly one to watch – check his remixes of Health and Yeasayer.
Retro Grade – Pulsar
Simian Mobile Disco – Nerve Salad
Chilly Gonzales – I Am Europe (Djedjotronic Remix)
OR all at once: Woody XX

BONUS: Luke Million – Arnold
Luke Million is Luke Godson, better known as the keyboardist from The Swiss. Arnie on a workout tip.

Give The Man some of your money this week for Tape to Tape‘s latest; the stunningly beautiful Pure and Easy EP on Relish Recordings. Including a remix from Black Strobe. Consistently excellent.

And relax…

In search of some calm this morning, I dug this gorgeous little mix out from the depths of my iPod. I thought I’d share the love as I’m sure August has already been a hectic month for all and is likely to continue…

Breathe in its Balearic powers and relax with this little blast from the past:

Woody’s Roundup

This week we have been mostly listening to: Aeroplane. Actually, that’s not strictly true – we’ve been sampling some of the many August mixes uploaded for our pleasure, and what a pleasure it’s been. The Aeroplane Late July mix is well worth a mention though as it drew our attention to the excellent Grum remix of Everything Everything (the single with all the remixes is out 23 August and the album Man Alive is out 30 August) and the Aeroplane remix of Chromeo‘s Don’t Turn The Lights On, which has been talked about in the twittosphere for a long time. Another notable mix is the Joe and Will Ask? Offering for their Deadly People label, sadly not in downloadable format but available to stream from mixcloud. Their single Rainbow Trout is out 16 August and well and truly lives up to their usual excellence.

Anyway, want to go out clubbing? For free? Mixmag host their forth free That Mixmag Thing party at the Queen of Hoxton tonight, with Joris Voorn on the decks. Tomorrow you have to hand over some cash for Fabric, but it’s so worth it, as they’ve got Seth Troxler and the lovely Nicolas Jaar. Yummy yumyum.

Woody’s tracks this week seem to be all about the remix. I love rediscovering an old favourite with a fresh angle, and special commendation goes out to Grum, who always adds just enough chime to a record to turn it into an emotive little number that brings out the girl in me.

Fenech-Soler – Lies (Herve remix)
Chromeo – Don’t Turn The Lights On (Aeroplane Remix)
Everything Everything – MY KZ YR BF (Grum Remix)
The Count and Sinden feat Mystery Jets – After Dark (Extended Club Mix)
Joe and Will Ask? – Man The Cannons
Silver Columns – Always On (Caribou Remix)
Hot Chip – Hand Me Down Your Love (Wild Geese Remix)

FAT!

The Fat! Club have enlisted the wonderful Mr Tony Senghore for their lastest mix, which you can stream on Mixcloud here. Dirty dirty house music: any mix that starts with Felix Da Housecat‘s Kick Drum is guaranteed to be a winner with us.

Check out AcidkidsBig Foot feat. Marina at 17 minutes in. On the remix is Schlachthofbronx, whose own Ayoba has been tearing up dancefloors all over the place of late. Very much one to watch in the coming months.
