Vaults gonna sort you out

Two from the vaults are playing two dirty little parties this weekend and we can’t wait. The first is for Gimmick Records, an all-day party at 93 Feet East and the second of a monthly series of nights headed by label-boss Coxswain Dado Rey, joined by special guests The Monkey Brothers. We attended the last one and it was ridiculous – just when you thought tech-house couldn’t get any more tech and you couldn’t bounce any longer…

The second party is a Carnival celebration, as our good friends The Jinks present Carnival Jam at Cherryjam in Royal Oak. They absolutely made our Carnival last year and Dan and Chris are some of the few people I know able to reconcile a love for all things electro with smily hands-in-the-air tunes so it’s sure to be electric. You can get half-price tickets here.

See you on the dancefloor.

Penguin at the Bungalow

He brought us Fair Warning, he brought us Multi-Millionnaire, he brought us The Worse It Gets, and now Pengiun Prison is coming to the Bungalow. To celebrate the forthcoming new album (released September 5th) he’s playing an exclusive set downstairs for Meredith O’s Private Parlour Party at Bungalow 8.

This one is going to be rammed, so names on the Facebook page for list-only entry. You know the drill.

Lower East

Most of the posts I write on this blog are a cross between ‘I love this track!’ and ‘something new is coming out from someone we love.’

Only once in a while do I write about a record label, and when I do it’s because everything they do is so fantastic that I cannot NOT give them credit any longer. It’s lovely when the label is the link across loads of great tracks, because you know where to look for more gems, and it reflects the excellent tastes of the label owner/founder.

That man is Lee Brinx, and yesterday his label Lower East released one of his own EPs, Over You, featuring remixes from Robert James and my current favourites WildKats (Lower East also released WildKats’ debut EP, Addict For You). The previous release was the excellent Kitchens and Bathrooms EP from Alexis Raphael, featuring remixes from Richy Ahmed and Lee Foss.

Lee Brinx, Cozzy D & Ed  Kane (Kanio/Dexter Kane), launched the label in June 2010, with a release every month since, including their own notable numbers in the catalogue – namely Dexter Kane’s Dex Appeal on the From The Ground Up EP, and Cozzy D’s My Mistress on the Bit On The Side EP.

The White Isle, it seems, is to thank for this forward-thinking outlook, as Lee sites a trip to Ibiza over the Millenium as cementing the change from guitar bands to decks, and he started playing in clubs from the age of 17. Now based in East London he is a resident at Creche, the infamous Sunday parties at 93 Feet East, Queen of Hoxton and other venues with open space. The next is ‘The Big One’ with Jamie Jones and Kerri Chandler on 9 October at a secret location from noon until midnight.

It’s a little bit of sunshine on the rooftops of Lower East London.

Outside the Skyline

Miguel Migs has always been someone I’ve relied on to soundtrack my warm-up and cool-down, and he’s been providing sexy pre-club beats this summer with Everybody, released in July and with a remix package including a take from the mighty Soul Clap. It turns out there’s more where that came from, as he’s been in the studio to make Outside The Skyline, the forthcoming album to be released on OM Records in September.

The album is a collaborative effort, featuring disco vocals from Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, reggae legends Capleton, Half-Pint and Freddie McGregor, Berlin based singer Georg Levin and bossa nova phenomenon Bebel Gilberto. The result is an overwhelming essense of funk and smooth disco, full-blooded and really very pretty.

We’ve got a free download of the Kid Who remix of the first single Everybody, heading for release on 23 August as part of the Part 2 remix package.

Sishi’s Summer Set

Characteristically dark and sexy from Digital Delight label boss Sishi Rösch, this mix is definitely one for the weekend. Very interesting to see that he lists the great man Steve Lawler as one of his influences, as you can most definitely hear the tribal elements they have in common.

Look out especially for the remixes of Azari & III‘s Manic and The 2 BearsBear Hug. Also featuring a preview of some of the Puente & Rösch sounds they’ve been working on, with Gangsta Club at 49 mins. Whoop!

Autumn Harvest

Daniel Avery AKA Stopmakingme has been watching the fruits of his labours blossom recently into very pretty things indeed. No sooner has he released his Gravity EP collaboration with Justin Robertson on Tigersushi, then another Stopmakingme/Deadstock 33s team-up with Autumn appears on the 4th EP in the excellent series of Gomma Dance Tracks.  The last Avery in the trilogy, Toothpaste, has been snapped up by RemuteD, and is out on 16th August.

He sent over his August Chart Mix, free to download and packed full of the big-hitting electro-techno-bass-indie greats that we love him for.
