Woody’s Roundup

So…. fancy a little dance do ya?

Tonight Simian Mobile Disco are playing a DJ set at The Nest with Rachel Barton for Lively, and it’s Dollop‘s 7th birthday series at XOYO with Scuba and Benji B. Till Von Sein is playing a secret East London location with James Teej for Slowpoke.

It’s RA‘s tenth anniversary, so to celebrate they’re throwing ten RA X parties with epic lineups in ten cities all over the place, including a mystery guest ‘X.’ We’re lucky enough to be attending at Sonar next week, and the one over here is tomorrow night at Cable. A Night With…Heidi heads to Bar A Bar in Stoke Newington, and Trouble Vision continues being truly great, with Tensnake and Lee Foss at Corsica Studios.

This week’s tracks are GOOOOOOOOOD:
Deadstock 33s – The Devil’s Paintbrush (Eskimo Twins Remix) My favourite mix too, in 320 goodness. The whole release is out on Bang Gang today. Whoop!
Metronomy – The Bay (Stopmakingme Remix) YES
Carte Blanche – The Molecules
Chris Malinchek – The Fourth
Kris Menace vs Emil – Walking On The Moon (Xinobi Remix)
Grum – Runaway (Nightriders Remix)
Disclosure – I Love… That You Know They’re so young and make amazing music beyond their years. We really enjoyed seeing them at Kill Em All at the Lock Tavern last Sunday, and the Carnival/I Love… That You Know EP is out on Monday on Transparent. This track really is very good.

G’Day G’Day

It’s been a while since we talked about Cassian, but rest assured, he’s not been far from our minds. As one of the Bang Gang artists (his last EP I Like What You’re Doing was out on Bang Gang in February and is well worth a purchase) we pay him special attention, because as far as we’re concerned they can do no wrong. He’s a busy bee this year, with his YEW.S.A and YEWro tours after the EP (each with a mixtape to match), and remixing for everyone under the sun, including most recently Human Life‘s In It Together, released on fellow Aussie label One Love.

Does the man ever sleep? It seems not, as this morning he’s kindly offered us his G’Day G’Day mix, which is a recording of a set he did for the wonderful Triple J radio on 9 April, including his classic re-take on label-mates Bag Raiders, and oh sweet Jesus, his remix of Those Dancing Days by Monkey Safari.

God Bless you Australia.

Woody’s Roundup

The first of our May Bank Holidays and, as expected, there is a Summer theme to the events planned. Cue the use of our favourite type of venue; the car park.

Last night the DeadFish Audio gang celebrated Mowgli’s birthday in the best way they know how, by throwing a huge party at Public Life. The secret guest was no less than Groove Armada, and the atmosphere was pretty electric as the crowd – hanging off every ledge in the place – joined Solo in singing Happy Birthday. I think there might be a few sore heads this morning.

There are so many amazing things coming up this weekend I might have to list them:
Tonight:
Trouble Vision at Corsica Studios with The 2 Bears and Toddla T, to launch Raf Daddy and Toddla’s new label Girls Music.
Dummy Mag birthday at The Macbeth with Stopmakingme

Saturday:
Planet Turbo at the Coronet with Tiga, Erol Alkan and Boys Noize
Chew the Fat and Urban Nerds present Londinium at Ewer Street Car Park with Fabio & Grooverider and A1 Bassline

Sunday:
Old Queen’s Head All Day-er with Evil Nine and New Young Pony Club

Eastern Electrics at the Union Car Park in Great Suffolk Street
The Revenge is performing at the Horse and Groom in Shoreditch – it’s a barbeque all day, then music until 3am. Not bad!

As if that wasn’t enough, the crazy crew at Fabric are repeating their marathon session On & On…& On from Saturday night until Monday night. I feel a little sick just thinking about it…

Here’s a few summery songs that have provided pleasure this week: Woody VIII
Classixx & Villains feat o8o – I’m on it
Still Going – Spaghetti Circus
Penguin Prison – The Worse It Gets (Dirty Disco Remix)
The Pipettes – Stop the Music (Justus Kohncke Kompakt Remix)
Lo-Fi-Fink – Marchin In (Astronomer Remix)
Disco Deviance – Don’t (Social Disco Club Remix)
Tiga – What You Need (A-Trak Remix)

And seeing as it’s Friday night, and this is excellent, here’s a bonus for you from Bang Gang’s Cassian. Cassian can do no wrong in my eyes, since I heard his remix of label mates Bag RaidersShooting Stars. This mix has a pretty-pretty ending, with Sing for Anna into the Mighty Mouse remix of The Living.

I love Bang Gang

This week’s Monday Mix is brought to you by Jamie Doom, one half of The Bang Gang Deejays, and the tracklist speaks for itself. As well as being extensive (with a lot of skillful layering to fit all of these tracks into a wee hour) it’s a selection of delicacies fit to fill you up all week, and provides a great taster of the irreverently brilliant Bang Gang style.

Watch out for the Bang Gang release of the sublime Crave You by Flight Facilities featuring Giselle, out on 26th March, and remixed by all our favourite people – James Curd and The C90s to name-drop a couple.

Hey Today!

Busy P’s remix of Hey Today’s Talk To Me is coming out on Turbo Recordings on 6th April. I’ll let Pedro describe this in his own words:

“A few weeks ago, we were touring Australia for Parklife TIGA was closing our stage every night, in front of 10,000 kids ready to rumble with him, to get wrestled to the ground.

And, as usual, he throws out his secret weapon, “TALK TO ME”. The crowd explodes. That’s when I ran onstage screaming, “T-Dawg, what’s that sound????”

The only reply I got was a big, creepy grin… Merci!

One late night, on the narrow streets of Melbourne, TIGA and I went out for a little boogie with the Bang Gang squad. Our Aussie friends know how to look after us. We spent the night at Sorry Grandma!, the hottest club in town, drinking Rave Juice and trying to understand drunk Aussies’ sub-English accents.

I knew it was the perfect time to ask TIGA about that insane track he was playing. Ask a drunk man something and you’ll get everything you need. Everything.

“HEY TODAY!” he said. “Wait, the German guys responsible for “If I Was Wonderwoman” a few years ago?” I replied.

“Can I have another Rave Juice, P?” he replied to my reply. Nice.

Anyway, I now knew it was some Germans who did that Herbie Hancock-meets-LFO track!

I never gave up. We were back from OZ, me in Paris, TIGA in Montreal, iChatting like we often do. And that little “Transfarts” window pops up on my screen!

“TALK TO ME” became the highlight of my DJ set, the moment where you see stars in the eyes of the crowd’s head. Not only it is my favorite track of 2010, I even had the chance to remix it!

What the hell can you do with such a monster tune? Make something harder? Impossible. Make something better? Not possible. Make something faster? The opposite of possible. Make something stronger? The train has pulled out of Possibility Town. I wanted something deeper, more mental, bringing two worlds together, Detroit and Rotterdam.

Here is HEY TODAY!’s new single “TALK TO ME.” Have fun with it.
P”

This is under wraps at the moment but is the third track on this video from Busy’s blog.
