Woody’s Roundup

So, London town has given us a tasty selection of clubbing morsels to nibble on over my birthday weekend. Here are some of them:
Tonight Brodinski launches his Fabriclive 60 compilation at Fabric, alongside Stopmakingme, Jacques Lu Cont and Gessafelstein, Chew The Fat! turns 14 at The Nest, with Foamo and Bare Noize, and our good friend Joe Robots is at Egg for The Future Now! with Sinden and The Lovely Jonjo.

Tomorrow Matt Tolfrey, Richy Ahmed, Luca C and Brigante play for Unleash at Paramount in the Centre Point Building, Corsica Studios hosts Stimming, David August and Jay Shepheard for Tief, Fabric says hi to dOP and Dyed Soundroom, and Chopstick & Johnjon and Trickski play for Suol at the Old Truman Brewery Warehouse Space.

Woody’s Roundup

Friday hangover part II, after the legendary Bowski took to the decks last night at The Russian Bar for Joe and Will Ask‘s Vikings 004. If you’ve not been to a Vikings night yet then absolutely get yourselves down to the next one (watch this space for details next month). The energy in Joe and Will Ask sets mingles happy-go-lucky bouncy beats with grinding electronic basslines, and the atmosphere is one of a great house party: friends catch up and dance with infectious smiles. I’ve been waiting to see Bowski play ever since we first wrote about him last April, and he’s still got that ability to truly surprise people. My favourite thing in the whole world is a night where I have homework afterwards – the obsessive tracking down (often with very little to go on other than a hummed melody; after all, there’s only so many tracks in a night that you can pester the DJ for the name of) of new tracks that blow my mind. Thankfully, one that we did ask about was his remix of Cassius I Love U So, part of the new remixes EP on Ed Banger. It’s a beaut.

This all ties in rather nicely to events this weekend, as The Fat! Club are giving away the Bowski remix of Boy 8-Bit’s The Keep to celebrate Boy 8-Bit’s appearance at Chew the Fat! at Cable tomorrow, alongside the mighty Zinc. I see a rooooooaaadddddbbbblooocccckkkk….There’s an exclusive interview with the Boy himself here.

Boy 8-Bit – The Keep (Bowksi Remix)

Also tomorrow is Bugged Out! at XOYO with Matt Walsh and Boys Noize, and Cafe 1001 on Brick Lane has a live appearance from Solomun and Stimming for Holic’s 4th Birthday.Tonight Ray Mang and Pac hit up the east end at Big in Japan at The Book Club, and Warm host Joakim at Plastic People. Apocalypso at Queen of Hoxton sees Dekker (Dekker’s twin-peaks-sampling Stop is still KILLING it on all dancefloors – demo preview here).

Hopefully it’s near enough to pay day to indulge in a little disco dalliance this weekend. See you on the dancefloor.

Arveene & Misk – Love & Lust
Holy Ghost! – Do It Again
Headman – Voices (Hannulelauri Dub)
Lissie – When I’m Alone With You (Tensnake Edit)
Firefox AK – Boom Boom Boom (James Curd Remix)
Spec – Prince vs Booka Shade
Juan Atkins – Dayshift (Oliver’s Nightshift Remix)

Bonus track (there’s a lot of gooduns out this week): Adele – Rolling in the Deep (Villa Remix)

Woody’s Roundup

Emily and I like to pepper our office Outlook calendars with clubbing plans so that we don’t feel too all-work-and-no-play. Consequently both Outlook calendars popped up with a little message this morning reminding us both to ‘Kill Em All.’ Now I work at Tate Gallery and Emily works for the government, so I’d say that was a pretty serious threat to national security.

Fabric tonight has a killer line-up and everyone’s involved. Just look at that flyer – they could barely fit all the names on! So we’ll see you at the front. Try and pop into Queen of Hoxton too for That Mixmag Thing #5 as these free parties go from strength to strength (kudos on the dressing-up box last time) and ooooh, they’ve got Matt Tolfrey playing upstairs while Mighty Mouse and The Magician spin those disco decks downstairs.

Tomorrow there’s another flyer struggling to fit all their guests’ names on: Chew The Fat!‘s 13th birthday at Cable. Just look at them all – Surkin, Yolanda Be Cool, Tony Senghore, Foamo… Festival-wise, Offset in Hainault Park sees two days of debauchery, including Trailer Trash’s mucky little Miami Beach Party spanning Saturday and Sunday with Ali Love, Stopmakingme, Rory Phillips and Riotous Rockers.

We’ll all sleep when we’re dead, yeah?

Wolf Gang – The King And All Of His Men (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix)
Aloe Blacc – I Need a Dollar (Oliver $ Edit)
Zombie Disco Squad – Hobo
Filthy Dukes – Nonsense In The Dark (C90s Remix)
Cajmere – Percolator (Claude Vonstroke Remix)
Mark Ronson & The Business Intl – The Bike Song (feat. Kyle Falconer and Spank Rock)
Cassius – I ♥ U So (beautiful and epic – I’m excited about the new Rawkers EP on Ed Banger)
Download Woody XXIII Zip.

Riotous Rockers are playing both Fabric and Offset so here’s their latest mix to get you in the mood.

FAT!

The Fat! Club have enlisted the wonderful Mr Tony Senghore for their lastest mix, which you can stream on Mixcloud here. Dirty dirty house music: any mix that starts with Felix Da Housecat‘s Kick Drum is guaranteed to be a winner with us.

Check out AcidkidsBig Foot feat. Marina at 17 minutes in. On the remix is Schlachthofbronx, whose own Ayoba has been tearing up dancefloors all over the place of late. Very much one to watch in the coming months.

Woody’s Roundup

The first of our May Bank Holidays and, as expected, there is a Summer theme to the events planned. Cue the use of our favourite type of venue; the car park.

Last night the DeadFish Audio gang celebrated Mowgli’s birthday in the best way they know how, by throwing a huge party at Public Life. The secret guest was no less than Groove Armada, and the atmosphere was pretty electric as the crowd – hanging off every ledge in the place – joined Solo in singing Happy Birthday. I think there might be a few sore heads this morning.

There are so many amazing things coming up this weekend I might have to list them:
Tonight:
Trouble Vision at Corsica Studios with The 2 Bears and Toddla T, to launch Raf Daddy and Toddla’s new label Girls Music.
Dummy Mag birthday at The Macbeth with Stopmakingme

Saturday:
Planet Turbo at the Coronet with Tiga, Erol Alkan and Boys Noize
Chew the Fat and Urban Nerds present Londinium at Ewer Street Car Park with Fabio & Grooverider and A1 Bassline

Sunday:
Old Queen’s Head All Day-er with Evil Nine and New Young Pony Club

Eastern Electrics at the Union Car Park in Great Suffolk Street
The Revenge is performing at the Horse and Groom in Shoreditch – it’s a barbeque all day, then music until 3am. Not bad!

As if that wasn’t enough, the crazy crew at Fabric are repeating their marathon session On & On…& On from Saturday night until Monday night. I feel a little sick just thinking about it…

Here’s a few summery songs that have provided pleasure this week: Woody VIII
Classixx & Villains feat o8o – I’m on it
Still Going – Spaghetti Circus
Penguin Prison – The Worse It Gets (Dirty Disco Remix)
The Pipettes – Stop the Music (Justus Kohncke Kompakt Remix)
Lo-Fi-Fink – Marchin In (Astronomer Remix)
Disco Deviance – Don’t (Social Disco Club Remix)
Tiga – What You Need (A-Trak Remix)

And seeing as it’s Friday night, and this is excellent, here’s a bonus for you from Bang Gang’s Cassian. Cassian can do no wrong in my eyes, since I heard his remix of label mates Bag RaidersShooting Stars. This mix has a pretty-pretty ending, with Sing for Anna into the Mighty Mouse remix of The Living.
