Woody’s Roundup

So…. fancy a little dance do ya?

Tonight Simian Mobile Disco are playing a DJ set at The Nest with Rachel Barton for Lively, and it’s Dollop‘s 7th birthday series at XOYO with Scuba and Benji B. Till Von Sein is playing a secret East London location with James Teej for Slowpoke.

It’s RA‘s tenth anniversary, so to celebrate they’re throwing ten RA X parties with epic lineups in ten cities all over the place, including a mystery guest ‘X.’ We’re lucky enough to be attending at Sonar next week, and the one over here is tomorrow night at Cable. A Night With…Heidi heads to Bar A Bar in Stoke Newington, and Trouble Vision continues being truly great, with Tensnake and Lee Foss at Corsica Studios.

This week’s tracks are GOOOOOOOOOD:
Deadstock 33s – The Devil’s Paintbrush (Eskimo Twins Remix) My favourite mix too, in 320 goodness. The whole release is out on Bang Gang today. Whoop!
Metronomy – The Bay (Stopmakingme Remix) YES
Carte Blanche – The Molecules
Chris Malinchek – The Fourth
Kris Menace vs Emil – Walking On The Moon (Xinobi Remix)
Grum – Runaway (Nightriders Remix)
Disclosure – I Love… That You Know They’re so young and make amazing music beyond their years. We really enjoyed seeing them at Kill Em All at the Lock Tavern last Sunday, and the Carnival/I Love… That You Know EP is out on Monday on Transparent. This track really is very good.

Woody’s Roundup

Summer’s in the air, and for those of us not joining the non-stop five-day party that is Miami Ultra Festival week (as with anything uber-cool, no-one goes to the main festival, just the plethora of events surrounding it), there are some London treats to keep us going.

Proud 2 (the club formerly known as Matter) hosts Spectrum and The Stanton Sessions for the launch of the Stanton Warriors‘ first artist album The Warriors. Strange to think this is their first, having been an avid follower of them and their Stanton Sessions compilations for years.

Dollop round off their Citipost Warehouse series with Factory Floor, and Justin Robertson joins Stopmakingme at The Horse and Groom for Spacestation.

Tomorrow Omar S and Anja Schneider hit the decks at Fabric and my French favourites Yelle (currently supporting Katy Perry on tour, surprisingly) join In Flagranti at Electrowerkz in Islington.

This week’s tracks are a mixture between the heavy night-time-Miami electro (see: Miami Noize 2011 from Boysnoize Records) and sunny songs that make us feel floaty.
Woody 44. Zip
Prince Language – On The Double Edit
Daft Punk – Tron Legacy End Titles (Sander Kleinenberg Remix)
Ali Love – Moscow Girl (Lee Foss Remix)
Beni – It’s a Bubble (The Magician Remix)
Cee Lo Green – Fuck You (Bart B More Remix) I know we’re a bit sick of this song but I love everything Bart B More does
Hot Natured – Red Light District
Kormac – Scratch Marchin’. I recently discovered this gem (and others like it) on a compilation series called Electro Swing. Very much a coffee-table album, but it was playing in a well-known trendy clothing store on my way home and every single person in there was doing an involuntary little dance to it. It turned the whole shop into a speakeasy, and made me smile all the way home.

When the Round Table Knights play, you GO. What I love about them is how they mix up the vibe and you never really know what you’re going to get, except that there’s likely to be a few chilled beauties like No Regular Play‘s Smiling Faces, and a lot of house-party jumpers. Stomper anyone? So of course, with the new album to shout about, Say What? on Made To Play this week, there’s a celebration in the air and alongside Stopmakingme they’re taking over East Village for Snap Crackle and Pop’s 4th birthday party. FUN.
They’ve given us their new mix as a taster of the evening’s entertainment:

In other news, Dollop continue their Citipost Warehouse series, tonight with Sinden, Homework and Hannah Holland, and Off Modern host their twentieth event at Corsica Studios.
Homework and Sinden have done Dollop mixes, which you can stream here and here.

Tomorrow No Regular Play join Horse Meat Disco at The Red Gallery, and The Revenge joins A Guy Called Gerald at Corsica Studios. Go old school with Derrick Carter at new venue The Basement.

It being the first weekend of the month, there’s a number of options for your perusal this weekend.

It’s the second Bang the Box night at XOYO tomorrow, and it’s the turn of Night Slugs to provide the music, bringing Bok Bok, L-Vis 1990 and Egyptrixx to a sweaty east London hangout. Dollop host their third party in the Citipost Warehouse tonight, and Potty Mouth Disco bring their party to a new Hoxton Basement venue at 12 – 18 Hoxton Square, with Sei A and Tape to Tape.

Tomorrow it’s the Queen of Hoxton’s 2nd Birthday, with a rare live appearance from disco legends Odyssey. We’ve got two guest list tickets to give away, email [email protected] and the earliest birds will receive an email from the Queen of Hoxton.

Ewer Street car park sees some action with 20 years of Planet E, with Carl Craig, Radio Slave and Francois K, Seth Troxler‘s at Fabric for Visionquest, Ben Watt and Prins Thomas head to Cable for Buzzin Fly, Ewan Pearson‘s at Corsica Studios for Trouble Vision, and Theo Parrish plays Plastic People. Woody’s Roundup

There’s nothing like the fear of never being able to leave your house again as it’s piled high with drifts of snow to make you rush out and have a dance while you still can. As ever, London has superbly risen to the occasion and offered a few goodies to stagger to after the office Christmas party.

Tonight Stopmakingme, Pete Herbert and Prince Pac play at The Book Club for the Big In Japan Christmas party, Retro/Grade join Villa and Acid Girls for Scandalism at Stokey’s The Nest, Motor City Drum Ensemble play at Plastic People, and Tim Sheridan plays one of my all-time favouritely-titled nights VeryVeryWrongIndeed at Lightbox in Vauxhall. Dollop host XOYO with LuckyPDF and Dollop DJs, and Eskimo Twins are joining David E Sugar free at 93 Feet East.

Tomorrow promises no sleep for the wicked as Jackmode present round two of their Pelski nights at Counter Culture, with the big boys Jesse Rose, Zombie Disco Squad, Oliver $ and Jet Project. Mr Rose was spotted grooving in the crowd to Round Table Knights last time we attended so it’ll be interesting to see how he enjoys making us move. There’s another legendary 2020 Vision party with Tensnake, Lindstrom and Crazy P, and Soul Clap are rocking Hearn Street Car Park with their Yoyoyo 90s Jam Rave E-Dition. If you’re up North (even if you’re not it’s only 2 hours on the pendolino from Euston) Wolf + Lamb have their Christmas party at Sankeys, with Gadi Mizrahi and the lovely Nicolas Jaar. Way down South My Heroes Killed Cowboys in Cornwall hosts Filthy Dukes and Stopmakingme.

Enough to dance those icicles away I’d say.

Here are some tracks to help with that:
Heartik – Wax Works (Mowgli Remix)
Prince Club – La Charma pt. 2 (Prince Club Sub-Marine Mix)
OMD – Sister Marie Says (Stopmakingme Remix)
Lykke Li – Get Some (Beck Remix) [Lykke Li remixed by Beck? Yes please]
Davide Squillace – The Other Side of the Bed
Yeasayer – Madder Red (Munk Remix)
Feed Me – Jolie [Feed Me are the latest signing to Deadmau5’s Mau5trap label. Expect the Feed Me’s Big Adventure EP in January]

Woody’s Roundup

I must remember not to go to work on Monday…I must remember not to go to work on Monday….
Ha ha, who am I kidding – come Monday afternoon I’ll still be in the corner of a filthy London car park rave somewhere.

Soooo, the low-down for this week is as follows (and apologies – there are hundreds of events this weekend so we just couldn’t list them all): tonight Art Department play at Egg for Blow, BigInJapan sees Prince Pac (Jac the Disco) at The Book Club, and Hidden Cat plays Superfilth at 93 Feet East. If you want to sweat it out in a basement, Tim Sweeney and Tim Goldsworthy play at Plastic People for Warm, who also host a day-to-night party on Sunday with Jamie Jones at the Horse and Groom. Spanning Friday and Saturday is the L.E.D. Festival in Victoria Park (Dalston Superstore pon de afterparty), and Saturday and Sunday join the Cla’am locals (if you dare) for South West Four, both of which have an abundance of afterparties all over the place, including the lovely James Zabiela playing at Plan B in Brixton.

Dollop are hosting the Scrutton Street Warehouse closing party on Saturday night, which has had to move to CAMP after Hackney Council issued a notice preventing events there. Even the closing party? So support them down at CAMP as they have Ivan Smagghe, Thomas Von Party and Matt Walsh providing the entertainment.

Of course Sunday and Monday bring with them the Notting Hill Carnival, with Mad Decent Soundsystem playing a pivotal role once again, and in the evening it’s back into the car parks for Eastern Electrics, with room two hosted by Dirtybird. Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke on the decks at my favourite Union Street car park means a marathon dance session.

Your tracks for today include some carnival vibes from Congorock and Hervé’s Voodoo Chilli, but also a little bit of love from Poka and Cicada. Enjoy.
Matthew Dear – Little People (Black City)
Bonobo – Eyesdown (Warrior One Remix)
Congorock – Babylon (Fare Soldi Babbylorso Remix)
Cicada – Your Love (DCUP remix)
LCD Soundsystem – 45:33 (Prince Language Remix)
Cassius – Sound of Violence (Poka Emotive Dub)
Voodoo Chilli – Dance So Sexy

All zipped up: Woody XXII

Woody’s Roundup

Warehouses! Oh how we love them, and I must confess, I’ve not been to Bocking Street warehouse in London Fields, the site of tonight’s Dollop party. It’s Chrome Hoof‘s album launch, so they’re playing live, with DJ sets from Simian Mobile Disco and Andrew Weatherall. Consider carefully your choice of evening entertainment this weekend, because there’s a bevvy of beauties to pick from. Modular are having their Summer Sundance at Cable on Saturday, and the lineup is pretty much poetry – Tensnake, The Swiss, Treasure Fingers, Mighty Mouse, and The c90s. The ever-fabulous Jac The Disco are playing at Orlando Boom at the Queen of Hoxton, and Stopmakingme is playing at [email protected] at Proud Camden. Eeek!

These songs make us happy. Grab them all zipped up here: Woody XII
Acid Washed – General Motors, Detroit, America (Black Strobe Remix)
MGMT – Electric Feel (Aeroplane Remix)
Snowden – Black Eyes (Le Castle Vania Remix)
Mastiksoul feat. Carla Carlim – Baila Bonito
Mighty Mouse – Song for Ellen
The Hundred in the Hands – Ghosts
Kele – Tenderoni (XXXchange Dub) – from Kele Okereke’s new solo album The Boxer, out 21 June. If this is the nice little electro-vibe, we’re excited.
