Radio 1 have made a very good choice by asking jolly Santa Eats Everything to do another Essential Mix as a warm-up to Christmas. And the man does what he does best; edits. Splicing and dicing and smoothing it all together until it forms a great big wonderful pudding, the components of which you can’t get hold of for love nor money.
So nice to hear his lovely voice at the beginning (nicest guy in house music?) and the dedication of the one unedited track to the late great Martin Dawson.
Available in full here – something to start off Christmas party week two.

Jaymo and Andy George have that funny knack of reading minds when it comes to tracks we like, and sometimes listening to their conversation about those tunes when they’re covering Pete Tong’s radio 1 show is a bit uncanny too. They like the same loops as us, they were at the same night as us, they signed the people we had just about realised were our new favourites.
They’ve well and truly come up trumps and proven themselves not only able to find and play a modern classic, but also to encourage new talent (and more established names) to hand over some unreleased goodies with their new compilation Moda Black, out 9 July. All of the thirteen tracks on there is an exclusive, and they’re storming banging beauties, especially Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Louise with its sexy deep-funk drop, and the clue is in the name with The 2 Bears’ Banger, remixed by heavyweights (!) Eats Everything and Idiotproof. One of the highlights for me is Jaymo and Andy George’s own contribution How It Goes, which shows a maturation in their sound from the fun-yet-potentially-repetitive big wonky drop to this bouncey, soulful, sexy-saxy number. More good news is that most of the artists on this collection have signed more exclusive tracks to Moda Black, so Moda’s sister is coming to the fore.
Have a listen to what’s in store on the compilation:
You snooze you lose, especially on something as huge as Dan Pearce (Eats Everything) and Chris James‘s collaboration Coat of Arms and their bimonthly mixtapes. I was slow off the mark on the December-January mix, so I’m going to share February-March with you while it’s fresh. So fresh, in fact, that we don’t have a tracklist yet, but I’ll add it in as soon as we get it.
We had to interrupt this Friday’s Woody’s Roundup broadcast with a new mix from Eats Everything from our friends at DJ Mag. Two in one week, both absolutely brilliant and totally different, this one is packed full of old school house and disco and makes you want to grin at everyone (I listened to it on the tube, with consequences).
Eats Everything stepped up to the plate this weekend for an Essential Mix live from In:Motion in Bristol, previously a skatepark. He was also spotted in the Barley Mow in Curtain Road by some spies of mine on Saturday night, before playing for Bugged Out! at XOYO.

Sorry we didn’t bring you a Halloween special last week folks, but Emily and I travelled up to Manchester for a double-header at The Warehouse Project, and frankly with Jamie Jones, Jamie XX, Jesse Rose, Julio Bashmore, Four Tet, Hessle Audio, Homework, Oliver $ and Seth Troxler on the decks, nothing in London could come close.
We’re heading out of town again this week, down to the South Coast for the Dirtybird All-Nighter at Audio in Brighton tonight, with the lovely Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin and Eats Everything. However, if you’re in London they’re doing the whole thing over again at Fabric tomorrow, and tonight you can content yourselves with WildKats at Basing House, and Jesse Rose at The Nest. There’s a lot on this weekend elsewhere too, with the legends that are Puente & Rosch playing at Basing House for Dented Melons, The Juan Maclean album launch party at Queen of Hoxton, and Catz n Dogz gracing the decks at Corsica Studios. We can’t attend any of this crazy fun (until post 1.30 anyway) because Vaults are back on the decks all night at The Hospital club, and you can come and see us for free by emailing your guest list names to email@example.com. We’re on the top floor so there should be a pretty good view of the fireworks alongside some dark and dirty tunes.
Oh and if you’re still raring to go on Sunday (and I’ve seen the crowd at these Sunday parties, a very low percentage of them have been to bed) Creche has a stellar line-up once more, with Laura Jones and Waifs & Strays at Queen of Hoxton.
Here are some of this week’s freebies to help you get ready for the weekend.
Lana Del Ray – Blue Jeans (Penguin Prison Remix)
Duran Duran – Girls On Film (Drop Out Orchestra Rework)
Canyons – See Blind Through (DJ Harvey Remix)
Mighty Mouse – Ice Beer (Bootleg Version)
Till von Sein – Sassomon
Kele – Goodbye Horses (Q Lazzarus Cover)
Since Entrance Song (and the excellent B side Heard That) stormed every dancefloor over the summer, Eats Everything (and Coat of Arms, Eats Everything’s collaboration with Chris James) is pretty much cleaning up at the moment. There are so many amazing tracks from him they just can’t get released quick enough, with Tric Trac linking him to the mighty Dirtybird this week (apparently after Worthy tried to sign it to his Anabatic label too) and more releases on Catz n’ Dogz‘s Pets Recordings coming in the near future. You can see what I mean below – this should keep you going for a while…
