Woody’s Roundup

Oh Fabric, you spoil us! Sweet Jesus this is a pretty line-up. If I were in London tonight there would be absolutely no question where I’d be (although Style of Eye is at The Nest and there is a Christmas offering from consistently superb party-kids Off Modern at the new Peckham Hotel), but our little rave-team is travelling to Manchester for the mighty Warehouse Project once again, to see our favourites Bowski, Fake Blood, Erol, Jacques Lu Cont and Boy 8-Bit.

December weekends have sweeeet DJs playing all over our fair city. Tomorrow there’s a Numbers warehouse party with Jamie XX, Steve Lawler‘s at Hearn Street Car Park for Onemore birthday, The Revenge is adding some disco goodness to the Horse and Groom, Shaun Reeves, Clockwork and Thugfucker are playing at Fabric, Hey Today! Are at Queen of Hoxton for Orlando Boom.

Sunday The Lock are proving themselves legendary once again, with Fake Blood, Riton
In a pub? For free? Can this be real?

Beni – Someone Just Like You (Style Of Eye Remix)

In music news, we were pleased to hear this week that Filthy Dukes‘ second album is almost wrapped up. Take a listen to this beauty (remind me to post the free download when they give it away on the Fabric Blog in the next couple of weeks)
Time To Let Go by Filthy Dukes

Orlando Boom

Orlando Boom has brought some pretty fiesty line-ups to Queen of Hoxton in the last year or so, so I had high expectations for prime-time December party weekend slots. They haven’t let us down; this Saturday 3 December they’ve got Aussie legends Hey Today! Last time we saw these two was a storming set that stole the night at Fabric last year, and this weekend they join We’re Not Cool while The Lovely Jonjo plays upstairs.

I’m really excited to see Will of our absolute favourites Joe and Will Ask’s new project Wax Cotton too. Whoop!

Hey Today free download

It’s been a while since I’ve delved into the punchy sounds of Hey Today! Probably not since their collaboration with Busy P last year, in fact.

Well they’re releasing a new EP on Kitsuné on 6 June with Black Strobe, Para One and Abstraxion on the remix, so they’ve given us a free download to celebrate:

Hey Today! – Minor (TWR72 Remix)

They’re playing at XOYO on 28 May alongside Feadz and Kavinsky. VERY much worth seeing live.

Hey Today!

Kill Em All at Fabric blew our minds again this weekend, and the excitement levels felt like they were about to spill over as we ran from room to room, desperate not to miss anything. In between the mighty Erol Alkan and Jac The Disco we caught a little of Hey Today!

What I love about Fabric is that the industrial, subterranean surroundings are so wonderfully conducive to the electro-indie-rock hybrid that is my very favourite sub-sub-genre. Hey Today! played a hard set but one that suited room 2 perfectly, and had the crowd absolutely unable to contain themselves.

So get yourself to the nearest underground exposed-brick-and-metal space you can (anyone got a bomb shelter in their back garden? That’ll do), and have a listen for yourselves.

Punks Jump Up Dance Report Dec-10

Punks Jump Up release their single Blockhead on Kitsune on 31 January, and to celebrate they’re giving away their Dance Report for December free.

Blockhead‘s been a staple in the mixes we’ve been hearing out for quite a while now (especially the Hey Today! and Zombie Nation remixes) so it’s nice to see the Stopmakingme remix cosily in the middle of the mix. In Flagranti‘s remix of Mobroder’s Rush is a huge favourite of mine (In Flagranti and Spank Rock on one track? Yes indeed), as is anything at all by golden boy Mickey.

Download and enjoy.

Hey Today!

Busy P’s remix of Hey Today’s Talk To Me is coming out on Turbo Recordings on 6th April. I’ll let Pedro describe this in his own words:

“A few weeks ago, we were touring Australia for Parklife TIGA was closing our stage every night, in front of 10,000 kids ready to rumble with him, to get wrestled to the ground.

And, as usual, he throws out his secret weapon, “TALK TO ME”. The crowd explodes. That’s when I ran onstage screaming, “T-Dawg, what’s that sound????”

The only reply I got was a big, creepy grin… Merci!

One late night, on the narrow streets of Melbourne, TIGA and I went out for a little boogie with the Bang Gang squad. Our Aussie friends know how to look after us. We spent the night at Sorry Grandma!, the hottest club in town, drinking Rave Juice and trying to understand drunk Aussies’ sub-English accents.

I knew it was the perfect time to ask TIGA about that insane track he was playing. Ask a drunk man something and you’ll get everything you need. Everything.

“HEY TODAY!” he said. “Wait, the German guys responsible for “If I Was Wonderwoman” a few years ago?” I replied.

“Can I have another Rave Juice, P?” he replied to my reply. Nice.

Anyway, I now knew it was some Germans who did that Herbie Hancock-meets-LFO track!

I never gave up. We were back from OZ, me in Paris, TIGA in Montreal, iChatting like we often do. And that little “Transfarts” window pops up on my screen!

“TALK TO ME” became the highlight of my DJ set, the moment where you see stars in the eyes of the crowd’s head. Not only it is my favorite track of 2010, I even had the chance to remix it!

What the hell can you do with such a monster tune? Make something harder? Impossible. Make something better? Not possible. Make something faster? The opposite of possible. Make something stronger? The train has pulled out of Possibility Town. I wanted something deeper, more mental, bringing two worlds together, Detroit and Rotterdam.

Here is HEY TODAY!’s new single “TALK TO ME.” Have fun with it.
P”

This is under wraps at the moment but is the third track on this video from Busy’s blog.
