The Mumentum Mix

Mumdance AKA Jack Adams just released The Tarahtid EP on No Hats No Hoods (29 November) and to celebrate he’s done a little mixtape. The Mumentum Mix is so named because it gains speed from 125 to 175 bpm, so you’ll find yourself shaking like a polaroid picture by the end of it.

After the Mumdecent EP on Mad Decent (I hear the next release is for Mad Decent too),Tarahtid returns to Jack’s UK Grime roots with some darker sounds from MCs Trim (formerly of Roll Deep) and Jammer, who tag team on the tile track while Trim holds the reins on What Ima Say Nex. As a bonus track you can download the So Solid Crew 21 Seconds sample So Squalid Instrumental from the EP for free here.

Woody’s Roundup

I must remember not to go to work on Monday…I must remember not to go to work on Monday….
Ha ha, who am I kidding – come Monday afternoon I’ll still be in the corner of a filthy London car park rave somewhere.

Soooo, the low-down for this week is as follows (and apologies – there are hundreds of events this weekend so we just couldn’t list them all): tonight Art Department play at Egg for Blow, BigInJapan sees Prince Pac (Jac the Disco) at The Book Club, and Hidden Cat plays Superfilth at 93 Feet East. If you want to sweat it out in a basement, Tim Sweeney and Tim Goldsworthy play at Plastic People for Warm, who also host a day-to-night party on Sunday with Jamie Jones at the Horse and Groom. Spanning Friday and Saturday is the L.E.D. Festival in Victoria Park (Dalston Superstore pon de afterparty), and Saturday and Sunday join the Cla’am locals (if you dare) for South West Four, both of which have an abundance of afterparties all over the place, including the lovely James Zabiela playing at Plan B in Brixton.

Dollop are hosting the Scrutton Street Warehouse closing party on Saturday night, which has had to move to CAMP after Hackney Council issued a notice preventing events there. Even the closing party? So support them down at CAMP as they have Ivan Smagghe, Thomas Von Party and Matt Walsh providing the entertainment.

Of course Sunday and Monday bring with them the Notting Hill Carnival, with Mad Decent Soundsystem playing a pivotal role once again, and in the evening it’s back into the car parks for Eastern Electrics, with room two hosted by Dirtybird. Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke on the decks at my favourite Union Street car park means a marathon dance session.

Your tracks for today include some carnival vibes from Congorock and HervĂ©’s Voodoo Chilli, but also a little bit of love from Poka and Cicada. Enjoy.
Matthew Dear – Little People (Black City)
Bonobo – Eyesdown (Warrior One Remix)
Congorock – Babylon (Fare Soldi Babbylorso Remix)
Cicada – Your Love (DCUP remix)
LCD Soundsystem – 45:33 (Prince Language Remix)
Cassius – Sound of Violence (Poka Emotive Dub)
Voodoo Chilli – Dance So Sexy

Woody’s Roundup

We’re in Berlin this week, so we’re missing out on the flurry of Bank Holiday weekend activity in the UK. We’ll report back from Bergheim instead, where we’re seeing Radioslave, Luke Solomon and Spencer Parker for Rekids Nacht tonight.

We’re relying on you to represent in our absence, so here are a few of your options:

Off Modern‘s last big blow-out before the summer is on Friday at Corsica Studios, featuring My Panda Shall Fly, The Boogaloo Crew and Zarcorp (Late of Pier). Off Modern are curating the entire weekend, also providing a free party at The Rest is Noise in Brixton on Sunday.

On a hot weekend it’s definitely worth a road trip to the seaside to see Filthy Dukes at the beautiful Kraken Wakes (from the people that brought you the Lock Tavern) in Portsmouth tomorrow, or, if you tend to gravitate towards the nearest car park for a Bank Holiday rave, look no futher than Bugged Out’s Mad Decent Soundsystem at Union Street with Diplo and Drop The Lime, or Mulletover, celebrating 10 years of Mobilee in Hearn Street, featuring Berlin’s own Anja Schneider.

Release-wise, we’re excited about Poni Hoax’s We Are The Bankers on Abracada on Monday. Watch out for the excellent Tropicomix by Mustang.

Here are some of the tracks making a stir this week. In particular, the Alex Metric re-edit of the Beastie Boys Sabotage – which was a frequent feature of his live sets and has been made available after huge demand from fans and bloggers everywhere. Power to the people!

Fox The Fox – Precious Little Diamond (Shep Pettibone Remix)

Au Revoir Simone – Another Likely Story (Aeroplane Remix)

Carte Blanche feat. Kid Sister – Do! Do! Do! (from A-trak’s Dirty South Dance 2 Mixtape – download it free here)

The Scissor Sisters – Invisible Light (Siriusmo Vocal Remix)

Foals – This Orient (Astronomer Dub)

Jose Gonzales – Crosses (The Boogaloo Crew Bootleg)

Beastie Boys – Sabotage (Alex Metric Re-Edit)
