Woody’s Christmas Roundup

2009 was incredibly easy to pick a favourite record, it was without doubt the A-Trak remix of Heads Will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This year, largely due to writing this blog I think there’s been a lot of chopping and changing my allegiances between sub-genres, and so my top tracks list has to be quite long. As always, there’ve been a lot of records that have had huge associations for places like the Miami Winter Music Conference. Imagine Aeroplane playing Crave You by the pool as the sun set….

Here’s a my top 20 of 2010′s shining stars which had to be very heavily edited down from the shortlist of 45, and a mix by one of the stars of 2011 – our friend Sylvester, recorded at the Mews Sessions.

Glix Mix

It’s now Easter Saturday and most of us are probably looking back at a Bank Holiday double-header and trying desperately to wind up for the next… So, with this in mind, we’ve got a mix for you. If you usually weigh in heavy on the bass and light on the cow bells, this should soothe your broken mind and pick you up for the next 2 nights of Easter chaos.

The mix comes from Glix, who is 18 year old Will Ashworth from Manchester currently finding his niche with an ear for beautiful, almost blissful, chilled-out Dubstep. Included is a stunning dubbed down edit of Massive Attack’s Paradise Circus from Breakage and there’s even a cheeky bit of Garage in there too…

Track for the Day

When I first heard this song I was getting off a tube on a freezing London evening. I ran home and called as many people as I could think of and told them to download it immediately. Then I put it on the stereo, loud, and sat still and listened for the entire 8 minutes, giving it the concentration it deserves. An intense, emotional masterpiece of layering. Amazing band and great work on the remix from Gui Boratto. Please please please download it now.
