Woody’s Roundup

Friday hangover part III (apparently it was my idea to start adding Jaeger into the mix in the early hours of this morning), and it’s all thanks to our good friends Lunar, who brought the mighty Blawan to The Nest (Moby‘s playing there on Saturday) last night with Goulcher and Waylayers. This is going to be a monthly night so we’ll post the details for the next one and you can come and join us.

For hair-of-the-dog healing there’s an impressive array of nightclubbing around the capital this weekend, starting with That Mixmag Thing’s first birthday tonight at The Queen of Hoxton, with Layo and Bushwaka! In Flagranti and Julio Bashmore. For FREEEEEE.

Tomorrow there’s an ultra trendy Love Fever party at Shoreditch Studios, and Fake Blood, Boy 8-Bit and Bowski play at XOYO for Bugged Out, which, needless to say, is going to be BIIIIIIG. Mulletover celebrate their 7th birthday by doing what they do best; a great big dirty rave at the Great Suffolk Street warehouse. Get Physical take over Fabric, with their all-stars Catz n Dogz, Heidi and M.A.N.D.Y. BUT what excites me the most, is the re-launch of Steve Lawler‘s Harlem Nights, moved of course from it’s old home The End to 7 – 9 Crucifix Lane (what was the excellent Counter Culture, great venue). Whoop!

Put on your dancing shoes we’re going to the disco.

It’s a busy week for music submissions too – UNKLE have their new EP Only the Lonely out on Monday, SebastiAn released the first single Embody from his album Total, which I can’t wait for, out in May on Ed Banger, and Holy Ghost! gave us single Wait and See as a taster of their self-titled album, out on Tuesday on DFA. Bibio‘s much-awaited sixth album Mind Bokeh is out on Warp records on Monday, and you can hear single Excuses here.
SebastiAn – Embody
Holy Ghost! – Wait and See
Sophia Somajo – Wristcutters Inc (Style of Eye Dub Mix)
TV on the Radio – Will Do (XXXChange Dancehall Mix)
Yello – Oh yeah (Tom Staar Remix)
Yacht – Dystopia
Dirty Vegas – Change (In Flagranti mix)

Woody’s Roundup

The longest month of the year is finally drawing to a close, and hopefully with it the long drought on the ol’ cash flow. Clubworld has cottoned on to the fact that pay day is soon to shine upon us like a weak and distant sun, and there are quite a few tasty options for the weekend.

So, here we go: tonight go east for A-trak at XOYO for Moda, along with Monarchy, Fenech-Soler and Russ Chimes, or Big in Japan down the road at The Book Club, or further east Aeroplane is playing at The Nest in Stoke Newington. If you like things a little harder Pendulum, Doorly and Joker are playing at Ewer Street car park for Spectrum’s 10th birthday, but it will be cooooold. Tomorrow Mulletover returns to Cable with Sebo K and Crazy P, and Plastic People is well worth a visit for Caribou and Floating Points. At the Queen of Hoxton, Apocalypso features Dekker and Girl Unit – Girl Unit huge for Wut last year, and Dekker killed it at Fabric with his Twin Peaks sample Stop (listen here).

Spanning both nights is Double Trouble Vision at Corsica Studios, tonight with Roska and Roller Express (a collaboration of Toddla T,  Redlight,  Serocee and Drea), and tomorrow with Theo Parrish, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Ramadanman.

There are loads of bits and bobs to listen to on tinterweb this week, including new tracks from Cut Copy‘s Zonoscope album, and Metronomy‘s new video for She Wants, so keep those ears peeled over the weekend, and here are a few little numbers to get you through an afternoon in the office.
Kraftwerk – Computer Love (Remastered)
Cut Copy – Take Me Over (Mylo Remix)
Jesse Rae – d.e.s.i.r.e. [the Deadstock 33s edit]
Jesse Voorn – Somewhere (Bass Kleph Remix)
Vampire Weekend – White Sky (Vamp Dub)
Das Moth – Moon
Death From Above 1979 – Black History Month (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix)

BONUS: Sneak peak at new Fake Blood track Medieval (thanks to Gotta Dance Dirty for this rip).

Woody’s Roundup

As darkness falls across the land, the midnight hour is close at hand, creatures crawl in search of blood, to terrorize your neighbourhood.

Tonight 29th October
Delphic play at The Warehouse Project London at Ewer Street Car Park with Filthy Dukes, Retro/Grade and  Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team (their new mix wins a prize for the most original title: Post Time-Travel Nosebleed. Hear it here).

The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of forty thousand years, and grizzly ghouls from every tomb are closing in to seal your doom…

Tomorrow 30th October
Mulletover have their fancy dress party at a secret warehouse location. They’ve got Steve Bug, Seth Troxler and Ewan Pearson, but it’s sold out, so beware. There is an after party though on actual Halloween from 6am- 11am at Hidden in Vauxhall.
Neon Noise Project have taken over Hearn Street Car Park with Digitalism and Jac The Disco and Late of The Pier Djs. Another spooktacular lineup, another sell-out, but you can get tickets on the door if you get down there early.
Winterwell festival’s putting on a Victorian Villains party with our friends The Jinks at Village Underground.
If you’re in South London get yourselves down to The Rest Is Noise for the third Wholemeal + Spacetime: TRICK OR BEAT, with Addison Groove, Peverelist, Brackles and Esselle.
For you Westies: Black Rabbit’s 4th Birthday sees Severino, Buckwacka! and Tape to Tape at Mason’s Arms in Harrow Road.
Love Fever are hosting one of their secret Dalston Warehouse Parties, and Electric Minds are having one of their loft parties, with James Priestley and Giles Smith. Special vibes at both of these parties.

Sunday 31st October
The Lock Tavern will never let us down. This week Bok Bok is playing for FACT mag and it’s freeeeeee.

And though you fight to stay alive your body starts to shiver, for no mere mortal can resist, the evil of the thriller.

Gesaffelstein – Variations. Another outstanding release from Turbo. Go Tiga. (This version is very low quality. Buy it louder on 9 November)
Kisses – Kisses (Stopmakingme Remix)
Chemise – She Can’t Love You (Tronik Youth Lovedit)
Lorenz Rhode feat. Snax – Something Hot (Savage Skulls Remix)
Gold Panda – You (Cassettes Won’t Listen Remix)
Boys Noize – Sweet Light (Boris Dlugosch Remix)

Out this week on Beatport is DeadFish Remixed, including the excellent Round Table Knights remix of Solo‘s Joga Bola. Rave piano at its best.

So go forth this weekend and frighten.

Woody’s Roundup

We’re in Berlin this week, so we’re missing out on the flurry of Bank Holiday weekend activity in the UK. We’ll report back from Bergheim instead, where we’re seeing Radioslave, Luke Solomon and Spencer Parker for Rekids Nacht tonight.

We’re relying on you to represent in our absence, so here are a few of your options:

Off Modern‘s last big blow-out before the summer is on Friday at Corsica Studios, featuring My Panda Shall Fly, The Boogaloo Crew and Zarcorp (Late of Pier). Off Modern are curating the entire weekend, also providing a free party at The Rest is Noise in Brixton on Sunday.

On a hot weekend it’s definitely worth a road trip to the seaside to see Filthy Dukes at the beautiful Kraken Wakes (from the people that brought you the Lock Tavern) in Portsmouth tomorrow, or, if you tend to gravitate towards the nearest car park for a Bank Holiday rave, look no futher than Bugged Out’s Mad Decent Soundsystem at Union Street with Diplo and Drop The Lime, or Mulletover, celebrating 10 years of Mobilee in Hearn Street, featuring Berlin’s own Anja Schneider.

Release-wise, we’re excited about Poni Hoax’s We Are The Bankers on Abracada on Monday. Watch out for the excellent Tropicomix by Mustang.

Here are some of the tracks making a stir this week. In particular, the Alex Metric re-edit of the Beastie Boys Sabotage – which was a frequent feature of his live sets and has been made available after huge demand from fans and bloggers everywhere. Power to the people!

Fox The Fox – Precious Little Diamond (Shep Pettibone Remix)

Au Revoir Simone – Another Likely Story (Aeroplane Remix)

Carte Blanche feat. Kid Sister – Do! Do! Do! (from A-trak’s Dirty South Dance 2 Mixtape – download it free here)

The Scissor Sisters – Invisible Light (Siriusmo Vocal Remix)

Foals – This Orient (Astronomer Dub)

Jose Gonzales – Crosses (The Boogaloo Crew Bootleg)

Beastie Boys – Sabotage (Alex Metric Re-Edit)
