Ever seen that Twitter account ‘DJs complaining‘? This week’s strikes by air traffic controllers lead to quite a few poor souls being stuck in Ibiza. The upside of this is a spate of productivity, and lots of lovely mixes being uploaded.
Heidi‘s offering takes me back to our arrival at Sonar this year, jumping straight into a cab to her Jackathon vs Pets Recordings night and dancing non stop until falling into the apartment to sleep 10 hours later. Good times.
Three reasons to head to Kings Cross this weekend:
1. You get to witness history in the making as Justin Jay of dirtybird fame makes his UK debut
2. Everyone knows Jim Warboy knows how to throw a party… (& a 13 hour one at that)
3. You can finally give yourself a weekend off Secret Warehouse locations and have a proper drink, in a proper club with world class DJs on a killer soundsystem.
What’s not to love?
For those of you who need a little more persuasion, hailing from LA, Justin Jay is Claude Vonstroke’s rising star of choice. After being taken under Claude’s prestigious dirtybird wing back in 2011 with the enormous, How Goes the Dynamite? (everyone remember that one?! … big!), Justin has released a series of great, bass-oozing EPs on dirtybird, Southern Fried and Culprit. These have recently caught the ear of the man we refer to as wise Uncle Pete [Tong] giving him Radio 1 airtime as well. Here are some of our favourites…
Joining Justin, taking things a little bit deeper, will be the excellent Tom Budden. I think it’s fair to say that over the years, Tom has made his mark on our hearts as we happily whiled away time on dancefloors as far apart as Southampton and Miami. Partner in crime to the Zabiela’s and Fanciulli’s of this world at the pinnacle of their careers, Tom has carved out a fresh new presence for himself heading up ALiVE Recordings and through stellar releases on golden imprints such as Pets and Gruuv.
Finally don’t forget to catch your resident & host, Warboy do what he does best as well.
All in all, not to be missed.
Our track for the day today could really be any of the tracks on this EP, and that’s not surprising when you see who is involved – Tom Demac on Pets Recordings. Well done Greg and Voitek (Catz n’ Dogz) for getting this little beauty on your label.
Tom’s been a busy boy this year and has chosen his labels well, with the Critical Distance EP storming out on Hypercolour (who we watched deservedly win Best Label at DJ Mag’s Best of British this week), another EP on their Glass Table imprint as well as a recent release on My Favourite Robot. As his website tells us, he must have finally made the big time, because there’s a piece on him in The Sun!
Track of the day is a sneaky little builder, a naughty tease which you think is a straight up disco number until it drops this utterly filthy bassline which I actually can’t get enough of. I wasn’t intending to turn on the computer today (I love Christmas) but I just had to write something about this bad boy. So I bring you: Tom Demac, Tanners. Turn. It. UP.
