It’s the second Bang the Box night at XOYO tomorrow, and it’s the turn of Night Slugs to provide the music, bringing Bok Bok, L-Vis 1990 and Egyptrixx to a sweaty east London hangout. Dollop host their third party in the Citipost Warehouse tonight, and Potty Mouth Disco bring their party to a new Hoxton Basement venue at 12 – 18 Hoxton Square, with Sei A and Tape to Tape.

Tomorrow it’s the Queen of Hoxton’s 2nd Birthday, with a rare live appearance from disco legends Odyssey. We’ve got two guest list tickets to give away, email [email protected] and the earliest birds will receive an email from the Queen of Hoxton.

Ewer Street car park sees some action with 20 years of Planet E, with Carl Craig, Radio Slave and Francois K, Seth Troxler‘s at Fabric for Visionquest, Ben Watt and Prins Thomas head to Cable for Buzzin Fly, Ewan Pearson‘s at Corsica Studios for Trouble Vision, and Theo Parrish plays Plastic People. Take Me To The Club

We get on well with the Tape to Tape boys because their tastes in sub-genre seem to pre-empt ours perfectly. When we first spoke to them way back last year it was disco, then we all felt a little saturated, then again with a little afrobeat. This latest mix is perfectly timed as they talk about a more driving, pumping style, and with a bit of Russ Yallop and Discodeine I can see they’ve got that one well and truly covered.

Woody’s Roundup

We’re quite excited to get ourselves down to Counter Culture this Saturday – a new venue under the arches at London Bridge (what did we do before there were arches in our lives…) open for 99 days only with a remit to bring art, literature, theatre and clubbing all together under one arched roof. And who better to experience it with than Round Table Knights, Zombie Disco Squad, Christian Martin and Solo.

Here’s why we love them: Round Table Knights – Autumn Mix 2010

Tonight of course we’re starting off the weekend at XOYO for the London leg of the Abracada label tour, with Villa, The Krays, Mustang and The Magician. The lovely James Zabiela plays at East Village for their Bonfire Night special, and That Mixmag Thing #7 at the Queen of Hoxton with Grum and Mumdance. Community have done a blinder again with Plan B, presenting us with Jamie Jones and Le Loup (Wolf+Lamb).

This week’s tracks are a mixed bag as we alternate between good clean Autumn fun, walking around in fallen leaves and feeling all wrapped up, inhaling firework and sparkler dust, to getting ourselves down n’ dirty on a sweaty old dancefloor way past our bedtimes.

Nasty McQuaid – Nasty Pulse (thanks to Off Modern for another amazing night last night)
Andhim – Patty Sue (Super Flu Suncream’s Remix)
Leni Ward – I Want My Heart Back (Sean Eskimo Mix)
Catz n’ Dogz – Sunset in the East (Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts Remix). Catz n’ Dogz’s album Escape From Zoo was released on Mothership on Monday and has been on repeat in the office this week. A good choice of release from Claude VonStroke for his ‘deeper techno label.’

The Glimmers – You Rocked My World
David E Sugar – Flea Market (Third Party Remix)

Neatly packaged: WoodyXXX

Oh my DAYYYZ out tomorrow is the Mitzwa EP by Hickup on Sweat It Out! and it’s very good indeed. Everyone knows I’m a sucker for a bit of woodwind. I mean who isn’t?!

Me and Madonna

We were pretty big fans of Tape to Tape‘s Pure & Easy EP when it came out on Relish in August. Come to think of it, we were pretty big fans of The Devil Made Me Do It EP before that… Now they’re back with a disco remix of Black Strobe’s Me and Madonna on Kistuné on 6 December, so we thought we’d give you a little taster mixtape. Including my favourites Hannulelauri and Prince Language, and of course, the Me and Madonna remix at 28 minutes. They’ve taken the dirty little vocal and beefed it up reeeeeal nice for the dancefloor. Enjoy.

Woody’s Roundup

It’s Spring, and traditionally this is a time for making things: babies, nests, great records…

There are mixes galore at the moment:
Tronik Youth has provided us with two in April,
High Rankin‘s posted the Rankers Cramp mix (!),
Solo’s treated us to his new Fabric mix,
and we’ve been enjoying an excellent party mix by our friends NoWayBack.

Independent record shops in the UK are offering exclusives, discounts, and a general party-while-you-shop for Record Store Day on Saturday, so we’re attending at Pure Groove to dig out some special vinyl. Silver Columns and Bombay Bicycle Club are playing live, and there might be a cheeky DJ set from Stopmakingme too. Here‘s a list of the stores getting involved.

As for tracks: not too shabby this week, not too shabby at all.
Crystal Castles vs Health – Crimewave (Midnight Conspiracy remix) – another great remix from Midnight Conspiracy of another track I would previously have said couldn’t be improved upon.
Moby – Wait For Me (Zodiac Cartel remix)
Gramaphonedzie – Why Dont You (High Rankin & Evolve or Die Remix)
Tony Senghore – If You Came Here
Hey champ- Neverest (I love this band, I can’t wait for their album)
Steve Bug feat. Paris the Black Fu – Swallowed Too Much Bass (Joris Voorn remix)

Here they are zipped up into a little party-in-a-packet: Woody VI.

Out to buy: HeadmanPrivate Show. Out on Relish on 19 April, including Tape to Tape remix I on the vinyl and both part I and II on digital.
Here’s a little mix to whet your appetite: Tape to Tape Promo Mix 1

Tape to Tape: IN THE MIX

London duo Tape to Tape caught our eye with their The Devil Made Me Do It EP last year (released January 2010 on Headman’s Relish Recordings). I mean, the title alone is enough to make one’s ears prick up, and the four-track distilled-disco stormer including a remix from label-mates The C90s doesn’t disappoint. The next project is two remixes of the eagerly awaited Headman’s Private Show, on the EP released on Relish on 19th April. Clicks and bleeps in all the right places, and a fresh, twisted analogue sound running all the way through. Check it at 20mins into this mix, as well as an exclusive version II at 44mins. Very nice to see Mock & Toof made the list. So very good.

Watch this space for the next single in May as they’re at the drawing board with it now…
