The C90s December mix

I’ve been sitting on this one for a couple of days and for that I apologise, as it’s really damn good. Something for everyone in there, a bit of italo, a bit of jackin’ house, a bit of hip hop, a bit of electro. The C90s monthly mixes are always something I look forward to, and this one doesn’t disappoint. December Chart Mix by TheC90s

Woody’s Roundup

Once in a while it’s important to take a little time to relax of a weekend, particularly in between the final gasps of the late summer and the madness that is Christmas party season (which, as we all know, is well underway by November). So we’re officially taking tonight off.

For those of you who are on-duty, I’d say get yourselves down to The Nest for Neon Noise Project, with Punks Jump Up (whose November mix is very nice – get it here). Saturday at The Nest is damn good too, with The C90s (whose excellent November mix is also for download here).

Alternative Saturday night fun can be found at Basing House, who seem to be going from strength to strength on their line-ups, and I’ve still yet to step over the threshold (despite being a regular at Trailer Trash back in its On The Rocks incarnation). This week Robert Owens takes to the decks. Elsewhere there’s a Lovefever Yacht Club party, Nina Kravitz plays at Factory 7 (formerly Hearn Street Car Park) for Jaded’s 7th Birthday, Plump DJs are playing at XOYO.

Here are some of this week’s free download offerings – thanks to Jamie Jones in particular for his re rub, which he tells us is going to be the first of a few free tracks over the coming weeks.
Cécile – Ecstatic
Treasure Fingers – Take My Hand
Jamie Jones vs Heaven 17 – Penthouses RE RUB
Young Dreams – Young Dreams
Manix – Feel Real Good (Doorly Pigeonhole This! Booty) Vocal
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – Simple Girl (Tiger & Woods Remix)
Dro Carey – Promothug

Punks Jump Up

PJU have been doing some sterling work for a while now, in partcular the stomping Blockhead and their mammoth remix of In Flagranti’s Worse For Wear, so I was pleased to see the latest release Chimes pt.1 is out next Friday 29 July on kleinTanz. I was even more pleased to see that remixes come from Golden Bug and Say Yes to Another Excess (the production duo of Dan Stopmakingme Avery and Danny C90s Ashenden).

Watch the video here:

They’re currently on tour playing all over Australia, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to hear them play this out and about in London town, but in the mean time here’s a Summer mixtape and a free download.

Woody’s Roundup

It’s that middle-of-the-month syndrome where you’ve got to the point already where you can’t afford to eat, and strangely; when you most need to stay in and conserve funds and energy, you somehow end up blowing your last pennies on the biggest dirtiest rave-ups. I want to say a big thank you to the Queen of Hoxton for easing the pocket with a great rooftop opening party last night. The brand new roof space is ready for the summer and we partied like it was 1999.

Tonight we’re migrating eastwards to The Nest, to see a bevvy of our favourites DJ for Scandalism, The Magician, Russ Chimes and The C90s to name but a few. Warm bring Mark E and Cottam to Plastic People- greats both, and Mark E’s Deny This has been doing the rounds in the last couple of weeks, and has generally received hoots of delight as a forerunner to the new album on Spectral Sound. If your tastes bend towards parties of the warehouse variety, then BokBok and Egyptrixx are playing at a secret location for Beat Redemption.

Tomorrow it’s all about rave-and-save, as all proceeds are earmarked for the save Japan disaster fund. Head down to Corsica Studios for Horse Meat Disco, Idjut Boys and friends Digging Deep for Japan, and on the river Cable hosts Dance for Japan with the Zombie Sound System crew.

And let us not forget the mighty Record Store Day tomorrow across the country. Last year was steaming hot weather and we trundled merrily along to Pure Groove (sadly online only now, but still worth a visit) for a few drinks while we listened to and purchased some good music. Sounds pretty perfect to me, and there are events all day at Rough Trade East and West, among many others.

Some tracks for the week? Oh go on then.
Death from Above 1979 – Black History Month (Stopmakingme Remix)
MixHell – Antigalactic (Jokers of the Scene Remix)
Mario & Vidis feat. Ernesto – Changed (Radio Edit)
Nite Jewel – Am I Real? (Classixx TPS-L2 Mix)
LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem (Tommie Sunshine, Vande and Gross Edit)
In Flagranti – Worse for Wear (Punks Jump Up Remix)
Mark E – Deny This (Extended Version)

NB: Rapidshare has taken to showing people a little message saying encrypted downloads cannot be started unless you upgrade to RapidPro. You can still say no to this and download as usual with the ‘slow download’ option. Ignore them: stick it to The Man.

Woody’s Roundup

There’s nothing like a little drop of escapism to jog one out of work mode and into playtime. Tonight we’re doing the triple – heading over to The Book Club for Hold Still (Tim Filthy Dukes), then Counter Culture to see Stopmakingme, Punks Jump Up, Lee Mortimer and Justin Robertson, and over at Village Underground Kitsune have invited Rory Phillips, Jamaica, Classixx, Is Tropical and The Twelves to their party at Village Underground. If you don’t have tickets to this beware – they’ve only got limited numbers on the door. Down South Caribou and Four Tet are playing at the Coronet and Ramadanman is at Corsica Studios.

Tomorrow it’s The C90s Shine A Light single launch at the Lock Tavern, 20:20 Soundsystem are at Fabric, Doldrums brings Joy Orbison to Plan B, and Bugged Out/Greco Roman at XOYO sees Drop The Lime take to the decks.

Here are a few little treats from the digital world this week, notably some boogie funk from Kraak & Smaak. Yes, it’s true, listen for yourselves:
Kraak and Smaak – Dynamite (Kraak & Smaak’s Boogie Funk Version) – the new Dynamite EP is out exclusively on Beatport from 22 November, elsewhere 6 December.
Clock Opera – Once And For All (Little Loud Remix) The Hundred in the Hands – Commotion (Tiger & Woods Remix)
RAF – Self Control (Bottin Edit)
Mumdance – So Squalid Instrumental
Joe and Will Ask – Clive Onion
Selebrities – When I Look at You
Download all in one go: Woody 32

Some very nice little releases next week: Tony Senghore‘s new EP Score is out Monday 22nd, as is Stopmakingme’s Wrapped in Plastic on Kill Em All.

Also well worth a listen: Eskimo Twins on the remix of Everything Everything. Two names we always like to hear, and when you mix them together you get:
Everything Everything – Photoshop Handsome (Eskimo Twins Remix) by Eskimo Twins

Woody’s Roundup

This weekend is another one of those where we’d like to be in three different cities, and three different clubs at once, but instead we’re settling for a three day party, which will probably spill over into Monday and make pre-Halloween zombies of us all. Worth it? YES.

So it all starts tonight with On the One at Concrete with Night Flight (Jac The Disco) and Capita!, whilst over the road Made to Play are at XOYO to celebrate 5 years of the label, with Jesse Rose, Zombie Disco Squad and Idiotproof. If you’re South, Trouble Vision at Corsica sees DJ Zinc, SBTRKT and MJ Cole take to the decks.

Tomorrow The Book Club pits Mumdance against Hold Still for a soundclash, and later on Stopmakingme joins the mighty Erol Alkan and Matt Walsh for Bugged Out’s birthday at XOYO. We Fear Silence brings Theo Parrish to Cable, and Tim Goldsworthy plays for Lostbahnhof at Life. Koko has yet another epic line-up with Mr. Scruff for Ninja Tune XX.

Then Sunday our local Lock Tavern is hosting Kill Em All, with Boy 8-Bit, Justin Robertson and Filthy Dukes. New Stoke Newington venue The Nest sees the launch of Potty Mouth Disco’s Sunday Sessions with Ali Renault. These Sunday parties are free, so swap your roast dinner for a sweaty rave-up, that’s what we say.

Single for the week is The C90s Shine A Light, out today on Relish, and a fitting follow-up to the fantastic 10:01. Whoop!

A-Trak – Ray Ban Vision (feat. CyHi Da Prynce)
Siriusmo – Wow (Modeselektor Edit)
Doorly – Sausage Party Surely everyone’s favourite kind of party???
Escort – Cocaine Blues
Consistent – Ain’t No Bump
Innerpartysystem – And Together (Midnight Conspiracy Remix)
Aphex Twin – Windowlicker (Renaissance Man Bootcut)
Download: Woody XIX

Bonus: Erol Alkan live ‘Ganban’ DJ mix just released on his website.

While The Leaves Fall

It’s been a tough couple of weeks and we all deserve a pint and a pat on the back. Don’t we? Relax, put your feet up, wear patterned knitwear, smoke a pipe, grow a beard and sip the amber nectar with the likes of Marbeya Sound, Hot Toddy, The Glimmers and Villa, all arranged perfectly by our favourites The C90s. It’ll warm those cockles like a winter cuddle.

Woody’s Roundup

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to Public Life last night for our evening with our friends at Brilliantine, and to The C90s, who had us up on the ledges where we belong. Much fun!

So here we are about to start the first proper Autumnal-feeling weekend, and this can only mean one thing: THE WAREHOUSE PROJECT!!!!! Yes, it’s that time of year, and we’re off to Manchester, and tonight in charge of the decks we have Joris Voorn, Steve Lawler and Adam Beyer, Jamie Jones, Wolf + Lamb, Joy Orbison and Krysko.

Back within the M25 there are car parks and lofts to choose from. Tomorrow Adam Beyer invites Chris Leibing and other guests from his DRUMCODE label to Ewer Street car park, and the Electric Minds crew are throwing another secret venue loft party featuring Marcus Worgull and Christopher Rau. I hear good rumblings about these parties and they’ve got a few coming up, including the next on 30 October, so try to get yourselves down to one or two. Tonight Big in Japan take over The Book Club with Leftside Wobble and Jac The Disco‘s Prince Pac. Always a nice vibe and a fun venue for after work dancing.

In anticipation of our journey into the underbelly of Manchester’s arches for another weekend spent in a car park, I’m going a little dark with our tracks this week.
Dem Slackers – Swagger (Clouds Remix)
Djedjotronic – Bit This Thin (Jesse Rose Remix)
Flying Lotus – ….and The World Laughs With You (Feat. Thom Yorke)
Azari & III – Indigo

Woody’s Roundup

Well, it’s all been going down on the clubbing front this week, and it isn’t even the weekend yet. So XOYO, the much-hyped new two-room Shoreditch club, wasn’t ready in time to open on Wednesday, to much embarrassment mainly due to the short notice of it all, but they’re moving the opening to the HUGE Bugged Out! night this Saturday to launch the Friendly Fires Suck My Deck compilation, with Simian Mobile Disco, L-Vis 1990 and our friends Eskimo Twins. Also tomorrow night Community at Plan B brings Floating Points and Moodymann to Brixton. RA tickets are all sold out though so act fast if you want to head South this weekend.

We like midweek clubbing. It makes us feel like we’ve cheated The Man a bit, and by the time the weekend comes round we can do it all again. We’ve got a little party we’d like you all to come to next Thursday 23rd at Public Life – hosted by our excellent friends at Brilliantine. The atmosphere in Public Life is just electric – maybe something about clubbing in an old public toilet just brings out the dancer in us all? Providing the soundtrack is Monatuk, What Kind Of Breeze Do You Blow?, and The C90s.

Here’s something to whet your appetite: The C90s – September Chart Mix

And here’s a few little offerings to bring you some sunshine this weekend.
Hannulelauri – Super Monkey (Headman Rework)
Chilly Gonzales – You Can Dance
Michael Jackson – Off The Wall (Only Children Club Edit) – Thanks to Too Many Sebastians for disco on a Friday!
Gold Panda – Same Dream China
Frivolous – River’s Fate
Chris Rea – On The Beach (Todd Terje Balearic Edit)
2020 Soundsystem – Ocean (Ray Mang Edit)
