The Disco Dictator EP

Auxiliary Tha Masterfader returns with our favourite kind of heavy-bass discso-funk on the latest release from Canada’s Homebreakin Records, entitled The Disco Dictator EP. The B-side Taxi Downtown is unashamedly dirty electro-funk, and pretty much the perfect dancefloor ingredient.

Remixes come from The Swiss’s Luke Million, and we’re pleased to see Quinten 909, adding a layer of emotion to the title track.

He’s kindly offered us a free download of the Compression Summer Domination Remix, so grab it here:

Parklife

It’s the time of year when we really start to think about relocating to Australia. Heading into a blistering Summer while we shiver our way through the next six months, Bang Gang releasing great mix after great mix, and enticing a ridiculous lineup of bands and DJs for Parklife festival, which travels during late September/early October from the Gold Coast to Perth to Melbourne to Sydney, finishing in Adelaide. I mean who could forget the legendary party videos from Busy P last year “I am going to arrive on stage with just my skateboard and my smile and my records.”

2010 saw New Young Pony Club, Cut Copy, Soulwax, Holy Ghost! Kele, Brodinski, The Swiss, and DCUP, playing with Yolanda Be Cool for the first time and providing us this mix via Triple J radio. Including all my afrobeat favourites: Crazibiza, Jazzbit, A.L.C.A and Gregor Salto.

Woody’s Roundup

Warehouses! Oh how we love them, and I must confess, I’ve not been to Bocking Street warehouse in London Fields, the site of tonight’s Dollop party. It’s Chrome Hoof‘s album launch, so they’re playing live, with DJ sets from Simian Mobile Disco and Andrew Weatherall. Consider carefully your choice of evening entertainment this weekend, because there’s a bevvy of beauties to pick from. Modular are having their Summer Sundance at Cable on Saturday, and the lineup is pretty much poetry – Tensnake, The Swiss, Treasure Fingers, Mighty Mouse, and The c90s. The ever-fabulous Jac The Disco are playing at Orlando Boom at the Queen of Hoxton, and Stopmakingme is playing at Be@Proud at Proud Camden. Eeek!

These songs make us happy. Grab them all zipped up here: Woody XII
Acid Washed – General Motors, Detroit, America (Black Strobe Remix)
MGMT – Electric Feel (Aeroplane Remix)
Snowden – Black Eyes (Le Castle Vania Remix)
Mastiksoul feat. Carla Carlim – Baila Bonito
Mighty Mouse – Song for Ellen
The Hundred in the Hands – Ghosts
Kele – Tenderoni (XXXchange Dub) - from Kele Okereke’s new solo album The Boxer, out 21 June. If this is the nice little electro-vibe, we’re excited.

Smooth Like A Snake

This name has been bandied around a lot recently in connection with The Swiss, Junior Boys, and the mysterious Polargeist, but his own tracks are pretty special too.

Hamburg’s Marco Niemerski, aka Tensnake is from the Permanent Vacation stable along with Azari & III, and shares many of their smooth nu-disco tones.

Here’s Coma Cat, out 5 February on Permanent Vacation, and sampling the vintage Antony and The Camp – What I Like.

Some selected remix delights (there are a lot more on Soundcloud)
Polargeist – Home From the Can (Tensnake remix)
Toby Tobias – In Your Eyes (Tensnake remix)

Track for the Day

The Swiss- Bubble Bath

It’s Friday, so why not add something a bit disco to brighten up the dark skies outside. A bit Steve-Miller-Band-esque, today’s track is brought to you from Australia’s The Swiss.

Donnie Sloan; bass player of Sneaky Sound System and writer/producer with Empire of the Sun, partners with Luke Godson, Tony Mitolo, Surahn Sidhu, to form The Swiss, signed to Modular Recordings alongside the mighty Cut Copy.

They’re playing with Boys Noize in Adelaide in February, and Bubble Bath is out in February on Modular Recordings.
